PLAY MATH
The Full Story
PLAY Math offers a free enrichment course that focuses on critical thinking skills (Verbal, Quantitative, Non-verbal abilities), problem solving and competition math preparation. The class material and curriculum is offered in four classes: one for 2nd graders, one for 3rd graders, one for 4th graders, and one for 5th/6th graders.
This course will be taught by high school volunteers, many of which have multiple years of experience in both teaching and competition. We are a dedicated team of instructors that are passionate in encouraging critical thinking, STEM curriculum, and problem solving to young students. While this course is free and we are a non-profit volunteer organization, we do encourage a small donation of your choice to help cover the cost of the classrooms.

$659 to Tri-Valley Chinese American Community for PPE masks (Mar 2020)
$920 for 1,300 masks to local firefighters (May 2020)
$875 Collected donation for PLAY Leadership Organization (Aug 2020-Aug 2021)
$287 To San Jose Angels Foundation Homeless Drive: chips, hygiene products etc.( May 2021)
Around 1000 books distributed to ReWA for refugee children in Seattle( July 2021)
$100 donated as school supplies for the San Jose backpack drive ( July 2021)

Jeffrey Liu is a senior attending Amador Valley High School in Pleasanton. Currently, he is the Co-President in PLAY Leadership. He has been involved in PLAY Math as a teacher since 2022. Jeffrey hopes to inspire his students to work hard and achieve in math.

Hi, my name is Jasper Ding, and I'm currently a senior attending Dougherty Valley High School. I enjoy hanging out with my friends, and playing sports, such as volleyball. I'm looking forward to a great year of helping out PLAY.

Hi, I'm Andrew Lin, and I'm a junior at Dougherty Valley High School! In my free time, I like running or listening to music. My goal is to share my love of math with the next generation. This is my 4th year at PLAY, and I hope we can keep inspiring and teaching each other!

Hi, my name is Alex Wen, and I am currently a Dougherty Valley High School sophomore. I like to practice calisthenics, play badminton, and hang out with my friends in my free time. This is my 3rd year helping out at PLAY, and I hope to bring improvements to this organization and make a wonderful impact!

Salutations! My name is John Chen, and I'm a sophomore (10th grade!) at Dougherty Valley High School. In my free time, I like to read, socialize with acquaintances, and explore the wilderness. I am an avid scout and am a Life Scout...For those of you who don't know, the penultimate (second to last) rank! This is my second year at PLAY. I am excited to bring what experience I have to help this organization grow and inspire future leaders to do the same. Oh yeah, I almost forgot about the math part! Oops.

Hi! My name is Ethan Feng and I’m a Dougherty Valley High School freshmen. In my free time I like to play tennis, sing, write stories and 3D design. I’ve been involved with PLAY since 2023 and this is my first year as a teacher, looking forward to a year of learning!

Hi, my name is Melissa Xu and I’m an eighth grader at Harvest Park Middle School. I enjoy figure skating and playing chess. Math has taught me that every problem is an opportunity to think critically, be creative, and grow. I’m thrilled to be able to share this passion with younger students in my community and help them, too, discover the joy of learning math. Looking forward to an amazing year with PLAY!

Ada Zhao is an eighth-grade student at Harvest Park Middle School. She first joined the organization in the fifth grade, performing piano at senior centers with the Play Music subgroup. In her free time, she enjoys practicing the piano, reading, and problem-solving. This year, Ada is excited to take on a teaching role and help younger students strengthen their math abilities.
